“On July 26, south Korea’s major organizations of religious orders including Catholicism, Christianity, Chondoism and Zen Buddhism urged the authorities to immediately withdraw the deployment of THAAD which exacerbates war crisis and wrecks peace in the Korean peninsula,” said a spokesman for the Religious Believers Council of Korea in a statement on August 3.
The statement came as south Korean religionists also join the mass struggle against the deployment of the US’ missile shield which is detrimental to peace in Northeast Asia and likely to trigger a nuclear war.
Such protest actions reached new heights after the authorities announced that they would additionally deploy four THAAD launch pads which had been kept in secrecy in a US military base while clamouring for “immediate counteraction” to cope with the DPRK’s second successful test fire of ICBM Hwasong 14, he noted.
He extended full support and encouragement to the struggle of religionists and other south Koreans to defend the holy land and oppose the THAAD system.
Not content with tolerating the THAAD deployment the Park Geun Hye clan enforced, the south Korean authorities are speeding up its additional deployment in submission to the US as they find fault with the DPRK’s legitimate measure for self-defence, he said, branding their moves as a reckless act against the nation and reunification.
He called on all the religionists at home and abroad who value charity, peace and justice to courageously turn out in the sacred war of justice to get THAAD, the root cause of war, out of this land by transcending the differences in belief.
