Description
In the early hours of 30 October 2016, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake
struck central Italy. Scientists from Italy’s Institute for
Electromagnetic Sensing of the Environment combined a Copernicus
Sentinel-1B radar image from 26 October with a Sentinel-1A radar image
from 1 November to analyse ground displacements caused by the quake.
The
results show ground deformations extending across about 130 sq km with a
maximum displacement of about 70 cm (in the direction of the
satellite), in the area of Castelluccio.
The work was carried out
under the coordination of the Italian Department of Civil Protection,
and in collaboration with Italy’s National Institute for Geophysics and
Volcanology. Id 367957
