The development of roads, ports, railways, and other infrastructure in the Arctic has been closely intertwined with resource development. The harsh environment poses constant challenges for building and maintaining infrastructure.
Land-based transport
Given the Arctic's remoteness and considerable distances between destinations, transportation there has relied strongly on shipping and aviation. Roads, railroads, and pipelines play lesser though certainly important roles. Major transportation connections are extremely limited and the flows of freight and passengers are typically low.
A major exception to this pattern is northern Russia's Trans-Siberian Railway, which traverses more than 9,000 kilometers to connect Moscow with Russia's Far Eastern provinces, Mongolia, China, and the Sea of Japan. It is the longest railway in the world and remains a dominant transportation mode in Russia. Very few other railways exist in the Arctic, except for a number of special-purpose lines feeding raw materials to a handful of seaports. 
Similarly, road networks are quite sparse and, being restricted mostly to populated areas, generally serve local rather than inter-regional needs. Outside northern Scandinavia, good roads are rare. Unlike most parts of the world, Arctic land is more "travel-friendly" in winter, when the tundra is frozen and ice roads and bridges serves as thoroughfares for vehicles from dogsleds to heavy industrial equipment. In summer, when the top layer of permafrost thaws and the terrain is boggy, overland travel is much more difficult.

Pipelines
Another critical element of the infrastructure are the pipelines in Alaska, Canada, and Russia that extend for many thousands of kilometers, channeling oil and gas to ports, processing plants, and centers of distribution outside the Arctic. The mid-20th century discovery of huge, but remote, petroleum reserves prompted construction of long-distance pipelines. By the 1980s major systems were in place from the Yamalo-Nenets and Nenets regions (Russia) and the North Slope of the Brooks Range (Alaska). Since then, auxiliary pipelines to additional drilling sites have expanded the networks.
Airports
There are flights available both within the Arctic region and to northern population centers. Flight routes cross the North pole to connect Europe, North America, and Japan.
There are many airports in the Arctic, but most of them are intended for small aviation. Kangerlussuaq Airport is the only civilian airport in Greenland able to receive big airliners. There is also an airport at Svalbard, called Longyear. It is the northernmost airport with public scheduled flights. In the Russian Arctic there also a number of airports, including Sabetta Airport at Yamal; it started functioning on February 2, 2015. It receives aircrafts of practically all types.
Sea Transport
At present, the Arctic waters are navigated by numerous vessels, including tankers, bulk carriers, supply vessels, passenger ships, tug/barge combinations, fishing vessels, ferries, research vessels, and government and commercial icebreakers. The three primary demands for shipping services are: moving natural resources out of the region, supplying goods to communities, and tourism. The highest concentrations of marine activity occur along coastal northwest Russia, and in the ice-free waters off Norway, Greenland, Iceland, and Alaska.
Major ports and harbors include:
  • Russia — Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Labytnangi/Salekhard, Dudinka, Igarka, Dikson, Tiksi, and Pevek, Sabetta, Uelen
  • Canada — Churchill (Manitoba), Tuktoyaktuk (Northwest Territories), Nanisivik (Nunavut), Iqaluit (Nunavut)
  • Norway — Kirkenes, Vardø, Tromsø
  • United States (Alaska) — Barrow, Valdez, Red Dog

    Two sea routes are becoming increasingly important. The first is the Northern Sea Route, a water course north of Eurasia that stretches from Novaya Zemlya (Russia) in the west to the Bering Strait in the east. Since 1978-79, Russian government ice-breaking ships have maintained year-round navigation of much of the route, which opened to international marine traffic in 1991.
    The second emerging route is the Northwest Passage, which traverses the northern coastal waters of North America, winding through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago to the Bering Strait.
    Oil & Gas
    The Arctic contains a wealth of petroleum and mineral resources. Currently, the region produces about one tenth of the world's oil and a quarter of its natural gas. The Russian Arctic is the source for about 80 percent of this oil and virtually all of the natural gas; Arctic Canada, Alaska, and Norway are the other leading producers. Recent appraisals suggest that a considerable fraction of the world's undiscovered petroleum reserves lie within the Arctic.
    Commercial extraction of oil began in the 1920s in Canada's Northwest Territories. During the 1960s, extensive hydrocarbon fields were discovered in Russia's Yamalo-Nenets region, the North Slope of the Brooks Range in Alaska, and Canada's Mackenzie Delta. During the last several decades, the Arctic territories of Russia, Alaska, Norway, and Canada have produced billions of cubic meters of oil and gas. 
    Nonetheless, more than 400 onshore oil and gas fields have been discovered north of the Arctic Circle. About 60 of these are very extensive, but roughly one quarter of them are not yet in production. More than two-thirds of the producing fields are located in Russia, primarily in western Siberia.
    The major oil and gas area in Russia, and one of the largest oil regions in the world is Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region (KMAR). Here about 57 percent of Russian oil is extracted. In KMAR there are over 500 known oil and gas fields, the combined reserve of which is about 20 billion tons.
    Besides that 11 offshore fossil fuel fields have been discovered in Barents Sea, including 4 oil ones — Prirazlomnoe,  Dolginskoye, Varandeyskoye, Medynskoye, 3 gas ones — Murmanskoye, Ludlovskoye, North Kildinskoye, 3 gas condensate ones —  Shtokman, Pomorskoye, Ledovoye, and 1 oil and gas condensate, North-Gulyaevskoye. The world's biggest Shtokman field holds 4,000 billion cubic meters of gas.
    In Kara Sea there are 2 gas condensate offshore fields, Leningradskoye and Rusanovskoye. There are 180 fields in Timan-Pechora province, including the so-called fountain ones, which can yield up to 1,000 tons per day.
    Nenets Autonomous Region is also rich in oil, gas and gas condensate reserves.
    In the US Arctic the oil reserves are estimated at about 15 million barrels, and gas reserves are over 2 trillion cubic meters; 20 percent of the oil is extracted at Prudhoe Bay Oil Field.
    In the Canadian Arctic there are 49 gas and oil fields in Mackenzie River Delta, and 15 fields are situated on the Canadian Arctic archipelago.
    The biggest gas fields are in the coastal area of Alaska and Siberia. 
    Other minerals 
    The most developed sector of the region, the Russian Arctic also holds abundant deposits of nickel, copper, coal, gold, uranium, tungsten, and diamonds. As well, the North American Arctic contains pockets of uranium, copper, nickel, iron, natural gas, and oil. However, many known mineral reserves have not been exploited because of their inaccessibility and the steep development costs.
    Mining is especially well developed in northern Russia. Siberia is rich in ores of almost all economically valuable metals, such as nickel, gold, molybdenum, silver, and zinc.   There are also some of biggest known deposits of coal, gypsum and diamonds. The Sakha Republic (Yakutia) yields approximately 25 percent of the world's rough diamond supply. Copper, iron, tin, platinum, palladium, apatite, cobalt, titanium, rare metals, ceramic raw materials, mica, and precious stones are also found in northern Russia. Most of these mineral assets occur on the Kola Peninsula-where glaciers scraped away the top layer of soil many thousands of years ago, thus making the deposits a lot more accessible. Fossil ivory, from mammoth tusks heaved up by melting permafrost, also is becoming increasingly available in Siberia.
    In Russian Arctic there are a number of mines where nickel, copper, tin, uranium and phosphate are produced. One of the biggest nickel-mining and producing centers is the Norilsk Nickel plant.
    Placer gold, coal, and quartz are extracted in Canada's Yukon province.
    Alaska's industrial-scale mining consists of one coal mine and one open-pit lead-zinc mine-the Red Dog mine, the world's leading source of zinc and a significant producer of lead. It has been in operation since 1987. Many minor gold mines are also functioning in sub-Arctic Alaska.
    In Greenland cryolite, coal, marble, zinc, lead, and silver are produced.
    Biological resources are similarly bountiful in the Far North. An estimated one-fifth of freshwater and several of the world's largest rivers are found there. The region encompasses one of the last and most extensive, continuous wilderness areas on Earth, and it is home to hundreds of endemic species of plants and animals. Millions of migratory birds from around the globe breed and live seasonally in the Arctic and a variety of marine mammals inhabit the regional ocean waters. Fish such as salmon, cod, and pollock abound in Arctic and sub-Arctic waters, supporting valuable commercial fisheries. Some two dozen major herds of reindeer and caribou, important resources for indigenous peoples, migrate across high northern landscapes. In sum, humans gain much from the Arctic's living resources, and the region is uniquely important to global biodiversity.

Αφήνω την μετάφραση για τους αναγνώστες για  να ξεσκονίσουν επί τη ευκαιρί

    Τεχνητος πνιγμος

    Ο τεχνητος πνιγμος ειναι μια παλαιοτάτη τεχνικη ανακρισης-βασανισμου. Ο ανακρινομενος τοποθετειται με κλιση πανω σε μια στερεη επιφανεια , δενεται σφιχτα και εν συνεχεια τοποθετειται στο προσωπο του μια πετσετα . Η συνεχης ριψη νερου δημιουργει το φαινομενο που διακρινεται στην κατω δεξια μικρη φωτο . Αυτη η κατακλυση με νερο των κοιλοτητων του κεφαλιου που συνδεονται αμεσα με την διαδικασια της αναπνοης , προκαλει ασφυκτικο φαινομενο και οχι μονο (ταχυκαρδιες), τα οποια εχουν και ψυχολογικες προεκτασεις εφοσον το θυμα υποβληθει σε συνεχη διαδικασια τεχνητου πνιγμου. Μελετες εχουν δειξη οτι και μετα 10 χρονια απο την υποβολη στην διαδικασια του τεχνητου πνιγμου τα θυματα εμφανιζουν πλεον των ψυχολογικων επιπτωσεων  πονους στο κεφαλι και πνευμονικες -αναπνευστικες διαταραχες. Ο τεχνητος πνιγμος αποτελει κομματι της εκπαιδευσης των αμερικανικων ειδικων δυναμεων, ενω σαν τεχνικη βασανισμου και ανακρισης εχει χρησιμοποιηθει απο τους Γαλλους στην Αλγερια, τους Αγγλους στην β.Ιρλανδι
