It has been reported that a cargo vessel has been attacked whilst underway 35nm southwest of Bonny Fairway Buoy. A distress call was made via VHF Ch16 and the SSAS was activated. Since the distress call was made, the vessel has been drifting approximately 31nm southwest of Bonny Fairway Buoy. OPS Global Risk Management will continue to investigate this incident and update accordingly.
Vessels within a 100 nautical mile radius should increase their anti-piracy deterrents in line with Best Management Practices 4. This should include increased twenty four hour anti-piracy watch keeping and radar monitoring. Vessel hardening should be checked and where appropriate bolstered.
